It’s not about pounds, inches or garment size; it’s about finding your style and fit.
Finding your style is not always about the latest trends, it’s about selecting designs that flatter your body shape and make you feel confident. Having clothing tailored to fit your body will make a significant difference in how you look and feel in your clothing.
In this blog I’ll introduce the most common body shapes. In our upcoming “Go Figure” blogs you’ll learn how to select the right styles for each body shape.
There are four basic body shapes: Pear Shape (sometimes referred to as Triangle), Oval, Hourglass and Rectangle.
- Pear Shape – Your top half is smaller than bottom half; you have fuller hips, shoulders narrower than hips and a defined waist.
- Oval Shape – You have fullness around the middle of your body, rounded shoulders, and flat bottom and hips which create an oval body shape.
- Hourglass Shape – You have curves with a balanced top and bottom body, and small or defined waist.
- Rectangle Shape – You have straight hips, little waist definition, and straight shoulders and ribcage.
Take a little time to determine your body shape. These are basic shapes, your shape my vary a little but find the one that is closest to your shape.
Watch for our next “Go Figure” blogs, where you will learn how to emphasize the parts of your body you like best and de-emphasize the parts of your body that you like the least. I’ll leave you with one Golden Rule of style that is important for ALL body shapes; avoid having any garment finish at the widest part of your body. In other words, avoid having jacket lengths that finish at the widest part of your hips or skirt lengths that finish at the fullest part of your legs.
Remember, what’s most important is understanding your shape and loving the uniquely beautiful person you are.
